Christmas is almost here
I’ve been so busy with Christmas preparations I haven’t had time to post. Shame on me. It’s been hectic but also fun. This weekend has been spent baking, baking, frosting, frosting. Wow! It’s brought back memories of when my mother would bake all those wonderful german Christmas cookies. Hopefully my sister and I did her proud. We made a batch of Spritz cookies and we did a huge batch of gingerbread. I still have to finish my marzipan balls but I cheat with those. I buy readymade marzipan. My mother used to make it with rose water, almonds which she ground up herself, and confectioner’s sugar. We always loved her marzipan.
I’ve also been making yo-yo Christmas trees as gifts for people at work. I followed the tutorial at Losabia’s blog
The trees were super easy and quick to make. Thanks for the tutorial!

I’m starting to get into the Christmas spirit with some baking. Well, not actually baking but getting the dough ready. It’s a gingerbread recipe that my mother used which she got from her mother. It’s in german so I’ll have to translate it first before I post it here if I can. It had a strange ingredient in it which I had to google to find out what potash is. It seems Baking Powder is an acceptable substitute so that is what I used. Now the dough has to sit for 8 days. Then my sister, my niece and I are going to have a baking party. Ah, Christmas memories always included wonderful baking smells!
